Mark Rostron is an assistant solicitor who specialises in defending large scale commercial fraud cases. He has very considerable experience in defending cases brought by the Serious Fraud Office and HM Revenue & Customs.
Mark is an expert in dealing with VAT fraud cases, including Missing Trader Intra-Community (MTIC) and Carousel fraud. He has a forensic eye for detail and the discipline to a deal with large amounts of evidence in cases that very often involve years of proceedings and trials lasting several months. He recently successfully defended an individual accused by the Serious Fraud Office of participating in the unlawful sale of shares and acted in another Serious Fraud Office case alleging a multi-million pound mortgage fraud.
Mark has a particular expertise in defending criminal cases for breach of copyright and trademark. In particular, he has been part of the legal team here that has successfully defended a series of clients accused of running Bit Torrent trackers and websites associated with the alleged illegal downloading of films and music. Indeed, one of these cases was the first criminal prosecution for illegal downloading brought before the English courts. He has successfully defended a number of high profile private prosecutions brought by the Federation against Copyright Theft and cases involving the BPI and IFPI, which have been widely reported in the media.
