Mark provides Corporate, Financial Services, Competition and general Commercial Law consultancy services to the firm whilst maintaining his own practice, Mark Beattie. His client focused expertise is partly derived from working with international, UK public sector and UK private sector clients whilst a partner for an aggregate of over 20 years at two City of London law firms. He is a Member of the Company Law Committee and of the Competition Law section of the Law Society.
Mark’s Corporate law experience includes advising on business and charity start-ups; company and business acquisitions and disposals; shareholder disputes; company constitutions and minority and joint venture rights. He has also advised extensively on directors’ duties and corporate governance generally, including on any interrelated financial services and competition law obligations directors may have for their companies’ activities.
His Financial Services law experience includes being the lead lawyer on the sale and purchase of fund management companies, insurance companies, insurance brokers and insurance portfolios; change of control; approved persons duties and on applications for and changes to authorisation. He has also assisted on material and other outsourcing arrangements, affinity agreements and overseas joint venture arrangements for financial services sector companies.
As regards UK and EU Competition law, Mark has advised private and public sector organisations and trade associations on information-sharing, non-compete, potential price collusion, standards raising and other forms of collaboration arrangement; on the competition law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, and on the consequences of infringement for individuals and organisations. He has also advised public and private sector organisations on responses to competition law regulator enquiries and investigations, including the European Commission investigation into business insurance, and has successfully defended clients against anti-dumping and abuse of market dominance allegations.
His commercial law expertise includes advising on outsourcing, agency, consultancy, management services and intellectual property related agreements, and on guarantees and indemnities.
